Can anyone advise on the best time to repot japanese white pine? I have heard mixed opinions between spring and autumn. I'm in London UK.

you an repot in spring, but you can also repot i late summer, I do them around late August. I never do them in Autumn.

I've also seen mixed advice on this. Many growers seem to prefer repotting just before active spring growth, but I know some experienced enthusiasts have success in autumn under the right conditions.

Mixed advices may come from the fact that we all are in different climates? I do not dare authum repotting. Feels scary to leave a newly repotted tree solid frozen for several weeks. My repotting season starts after the last big cold spell, when the soil has thawn and sub zero temperatures only happens in the night. It ends when trees break the dormancy. Normally from early march to mid may.

The best time for reporting is just before the tree comes out of dormancy, which is usually the time that spring is about to happen locally. In some places in the northern hemisphere this is early April,? some late February,? and anywhere in between. You can repot outside that time, but you risk harming the tree.?

Just before spring the tree is waking up and starting it's growth hormones out so roots will grow out real fast. In September the roots won't recover as fast,? if at all.

Instead of asking the question of people way out of your climate zone find a bonsai group in your area and find out when they do root work. It probably won't be any time soon.
