I recently purchased a Juniperus Chinensis that is a bit small to my taste. I plan to repot it in a grow box for a year or two to make it grow bigger.

My question is: Is it fine to repot now in the middle of the summer (and high temperatures), if I don't plan to prune the roots at all? Or is it always necessary to do it in the spring only?

I think you have confused repotting with uppotting. Putting a tree in bigger pot without root work, uppotting, can be done any time of the year.

Since you are not planning to prune the roots, moving it carefully into a larger grow box should be less stressful than a full repot. However, summer heat can still put extra pressure on a juniper, so keeping the roots protected and avoiding overwatering will be important. Many growers prefer spring, but timing also depends on your local climate and the tree’s overall health.

I do not think it makes sense to warn for juniper overwatering in the middle of the summer. I am in a mild climate and are currently watering my junipers two times per day. They just love a lot of water, on the soil as well as on the foliage. It is impossible to overwater a juniper in the summer. If you are very careless, it may be possible in winter.

Be very careful not to underwater junipers. It creates permanent damage and death. Overwatering does not.
