New young juniper was created by debstiffler

I have a new, young juniper bonsai. The person where I bought it said it was about a year old. Is there a certain age to wait until you start to prune and wire a tree? I¡¯ve done some minor pruning, but I would like to try wiring, but I am afraid that it is too thin to start.

Also, every video I¡¯ve watched, they have always repotted after wiring. Is that necessary?

Thanks for your help!

I never do any work on my trees until they have been in my care for at least a year. Some trees I have has been in my posession for 5 without work. Bonsaiis a maraton, not a sprint.

No, you dont need to repot when wiring.

You do understand that junipers has to be outdoors all year?

It is recommended to NOT prune & wire at the same time as repotting. Best to allow the plant to recover from wiring before repotting and the other way around.

There is no too-thin to wire. But you have to use thin wire for thin branches :)

The person from whom I bought this juniper said that if it got enough sun, plus I have UV lights on 8 hours/day, I could keep it indoors. I questioned it at the time, but he seemed to know what he was doing. I would have preferred an indoor plant, but I guess I may be starting an outdoor nursery.

Thanks for answering my post. I appreciate it!
