I¡¯ve unfortunately killed junipers. But my deodar cedar and hinoki cypress are doing very well. I actually started training the hinoki cypress during this summer season without any root pruning. I only pruned the foliage¡ªabout 25% of it. I even repotted it. It has been in a shade outdoors ever since. Miraculously it is doing well. The deodar cedar had very little foliage pruning. It was wired into bunjin style and repotted without any root pruning. It¡¯s doing very well and tolerates the California heat. You do see a lot of deodar cedars in Southern California because they¡¯re drought and heat tolerant.
