I want to turn this into a bonsai but i have just bought in a sale and have no clue how to turn into a small tree would you chop the top off to make it smaller or wire it.? the leaves are on the top part of the tree how do i get it to bush out in the bottom part.

I would just grow it out to thicken that trunk. It will take a few years or decades depending on your growing conditions. That gives you plenty of time to study the art of bonsai and the species. Once the tree is ready for styling, you will know what to do.

Your challenge right now is to keep it alive and healthy over a full year. How to handle winters if you are in a temperate climate and how to handle heat waves if you are in an area that gets them.
