I am looking for some advice with my Chinese elms. For background, both were repotted into pond baskets this spring. One fought off spider mites and has recovered well. Both were growing very strong and looked great. However, for maybe 3 weeks, I¡¯ve been battling some sporadic yellowing of leaves. Maybe 5-7 a day, sometimes less.?

I don¡¯t think it¡¯s just turnover. I thought there was perhaps a pest problem again, as the leaves had odd black stuff on them. I treated that and haven¡¯t seen it back. As for the yellowing, the pattern looks similar. It¡¯s often yellow leaves that have some green spotting within the yellow. They often fall off very easily. There is occasional tip damage or edge browning.?

Could it be overwatering? I¡¯ve been watering twice a day since temps here in Rhode Island have been increasingly hot. Both plants get full sun from about 11am - the end of the day. One plant¡ªthe more ramified canopy¡ªhas definitely thinned out. It was quite dense in the spring.?

I¡¯ve attached a few photos, though I know it can be difficult to see. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like very healthy trees to me. I would not worry.

I appreciate it the vote of confidence. I¡¯m still learning the species and new to this overall, so anything looks bad to me.?
