I got a pigeon pea that I’m growing from seed, the leaf is looking a bit weird, I water, mist, have it fertilized, and I did use diluted neem oil because of fungal gnats,?

any help would be really appreciate,?

Those bonsai starter kits is a total scam. Overly expensive normal seeds labled as bonsai seeds. You learn nothing about bonsai the first 5-10 years growing from seeds.

Theese kits mix temperate, subtropical and tropical seeds in the same kit which makes it impossible for a beginner to be successful. Sometimes these seeds are for species not very good for bonsai, but this is the first time I see they contain seeds not at all usable for bonsai.

Throw your kit away, including any instructions there may be included. Come authum, look for end season sales in your local garden centers. Buy as many trees you can aford. Already next spring you can start learning about bonsai. Not in 5-10 years, but just under a year.?

Haha I loved the comments, ya it’s unfortunate that they do this, I have heard many times now that they are a scam, and I totally believe you guys, just hurts that they won’t make it. I’ll probably grab a Jade and Elm to try out and see how they go, but already grown not from seed, I think I’m tired of growing from seed, they take so much to maintain and they die super quick if u neglect them even for a day.?

Find a bonsai club near you and go to a meeting.? Chances are somebody has a dozen maples or junipers they want to move to a good home. Help them out, and have a long talk about care.

Go to some more meetings and in October or so talk about winter care.

Thanks Ivan I will try to find a place. Right now I transitioned into the dwarf jade, ficus, Hawaiian umbrella and juniper I got a place I can keep it dormant in winter. Summer time hard to keep outdoor but I got grow lights and an east window so I’m keeping an eye out also the humidity and watering.?

by the way, any advise on pest like fungus gnats and spider mites I’m seeing them fly around and under leaves?

I have kept bonsai for almost 10 years now. Currently growing 300+ trees. And I have never had any issues with pest infestations. Trees that are healthy just do not get any infestations.

So focus on tree health not pesticides. Any unwanted bug on the tree can be removed by hand.?

Fair enough I respect that. Wow that’s impressive! I’m guessing sun light, humidity and watering are the most important to keeping it healthy. Is there anything I’m missing? Also are you in North America and u get winters too??

Yes, you are right. Climate and good watering routines is the keys to good health. When it comes to climate it includes natural variations between day and night, between different days, weeks and seasons. But also a slow and natural transformation between seasons. It is not possible to simulate that indoors. I have grown jades on the windowsills for more than 30 years. No blooms ever. Since I moved them outdoors they bloom every year.

I am in Sweden in a climate similar to usda zone 7. It is a coastal area som summers do not get very hot.?
