Hi, I recently repotted a boxwood with a mix soil of lava, pumice and pine bark, it was doing fine for a few days now the leaves have begun to turn yellow and some have a white film on them. I’ve been watering the tree and during the day it is outside facing east, it got quite hot the other day so maybe it got a little too hot? The tree has been inside for a few days in a window facing east southeast

The answer is in the last sentence. You have it inside. Get it out.

Depends on what you mean by hot. Box like a bit of shade, it was very late to be re potting as it should be done in March or early April. Check for insects but a few leaves dying is not much of a problem.

It got up around 90-92f, there wasn’t a ton of shade where it was sitting, I’ll move it to provide a little more shade, thank you for the tip. I’ll also keep the reporting time in mind, this is my first tree and the soil it came with was very compact and hard so I thought I would

The month depends on local climate.

By late March all of my trees in Alabama were in full leaf. Yesterday I drove across northern Utah and there were deciduous trees just leafing out.

You told us it was outside for 3weeks. How long do you have this boxwood?
If you just bought it, and it came out a greenhouse, then it needed some time to adjust to the sun (hardening off period)
When there is a heat wave, of a day with a exterme high UV index rating. Then my boxwood will get sunburned on its top. It has always recoverd. I never protect that shrub.

edit: Also your substrate look like big rocks. Is that only the top dressing, or did you use that also for the substrate?

That’s what I used for the substrate, it was a bonsai mix (pre mixed)

I would do a repot on this tree, so it has the right soil.

After much research I got new soil, and replanted. The root ball retained a lot of moisture so I trimmed a few feeder roots and got something that will drain a little faster. Hopefully the boxwood bounces back. Thank you to everyone who replied. This is my first bonsai and I have a feeling I’ll be reading through all the topics here quite a bit.
