Hi all - I relocated to a cool climate a couple of years ago. I brought with me a Moreton Bay fig that I’ve had for years and have kept it under cover each winter to avoid frost. It’s survived two winters but last year some of its leaves curled and died. It came back ok this summer but I’m thinking of getting a greenhouse for next winter.

There’s one on the market that’s made for small plants - basically a plastic pyramid shape over a frame with a roll-up cover. It seems to be what I’m looking for but I’d appreciate advice on how to use it as I’ve never used one.

For example, should I keep it sealed or have air flow, things to watch for, where to position it etc. Its winter spot is normally under a perspex roof with filtered light. Temperatures here in winter are overnight occasionally down to zero or minus 1 Celsius. Frosts are occasional.

We have a fig which is outside, it seems hardy we get some frosts and it has been there for several years. Tony greenhouses are not a good idea, the smaller they are the more they heat up. Temperature changes are much more rapid too. If that is all you get down to 0 or -1C then I would not worry.

Make sure it gets enough air, plants rely on it the most, after all. Other than that, you should be in check.
