Hi guys, I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I bought a tree through the post so was unable to view the exact tree before I bought it. I have tried to identify it by using the guide on here but I still can't be sure what it is. You guys will probably know straight away so I thought I'd just reach out for some help. To my eyes it best matches up with the Cork Bark but I'm sure that I'm wrong Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cork bark what? Looks like Chinese Elm to me, you really should find out what species you are buying. If the seller does not know then don't buy it. You are far better going to a bonsai nursery or a show and getting something there, there are a lot of scammers around.

Ask Google Lens or PlantNet.

The picture shows chinese elm leafs, ulmus parvifolia.? If the tree has cork bark it is one of the three clones: corticosa, Suber or seiju.

Google lens or plantnet cannot distinguish between chinese and japanese elm. Even less so between the different clones. People are still smarter than AI and experience matters.

Editorial comment, which has nothing to do with bonsai: I worked with AI back in the 90s fad period. What Tropfrog said was true then and still is.

It does "learn" but you have to be careful to know what you mean by "learn" and "intelligence ". When I typed "trop" my keyboard app continued and changed that to "Tropfrog". That is statistical inference, not intelligence. We don't know what "intelligence" is in people. How can we say a machine is intelligent??
