Is there a certain time of year best for air layering?
I have a pear tree in my garden I've been fancying a practise on.

My research showed May through June due to the ease of removing bark due to high sap flow.

Cool might give it a go.
Did you just use bonsai soil?
I read sphagnum moss is used quite often for air layering.

I used a 1:1 ratio of perlite and vermiculite. Some people use sphagnum other straight perlite. It¡¯s hard to say what method will for for you given your region and cultivation techniques.

Healthy maples typically take 4-8 weeks.

I put the plastic air layering balls on the maple out front at least late June, maybe earlier. If I cut them off now, do I put them in bonsai soil right now? Leave them in the sphagnum moss until spring? If I open the balls now the sphagnum most will all fall off, so I wave to have some plan available.
