The Hiroshima

The Bonsaithat survived Hiroshima, 400 years old

This story went viral on the internet, but it¡¯s undeniably true. The Yamaki family, living in Hiroshima, styled and cared for this tree for five generations.

This Japanese white pine was kept in the Yamaki nursery in Hiroshima, when on August 6, 1945, the bomb was dropped - killing over 100.000 people instantly. But the tree somehow survived, and was later donated to the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. on the occasion of the American Bicentennial in 1976.

The Yamaki pine has been on display at the U.S. National Arboretum the last 40 years. Enjoy the images and video we shot there!
